Sea Buckthorn Oil

Rectal suppositories, 500 mg

COMPOSITION

Each suppository contains the active substance sea buckthorn oil 500 mg (total carotenoids, expressed as β-carotene, at least 240 mg %).

Excipients with known effect: butylated hydroxyanisole (E320), butylated hydroxytoluene (E321). Other excipients: colloidal anhydrous silica, semi-synthetic solid glycerides.

WHAT IT IS USED FOR

A topical medicine based on sea buckthorn oil that promotes healing, for the treatment of haemorrhoids, anal fissures, erosive-ulcerative lesions of the rectum (including sphincteritis and proctitis), catarrhal and atrophic proctitis, and radiation-induced damage to the lining of the distal colon.

HOW IT WORKS

Sea buckthorn oil stimulates the regeneration of the skin and mucous membranes and promotes the healing of damaged tissues, with an anti-inflammatory effect. Thanks to its fat-soluble antioxidants, it protects cells against damage and has a cytoprotective action.

HOW TO USE

Administered deep into the rectum, after a bowel movement. Adults and children over 14 years: 1 suppository twice a day for 10–15 days. If needed, the treatment course may be repeated after 4–6 weeks.

WHEN IT SHOULD NOT BE USED

hypersensitivity to sea buckthorn oil or to any of the excipients;

diarrhoea.

Important to know

Use with caution in people with hypersensitivity or a tendency to allergic reactions. The medicine contains butylated hydroxyanisole (E320) and butylated hydroxytoluene (E321), which may cause local skin reactions (for example contact dermatitis) or irritation of the eyes and mucous membranes.

During pregnancy and breast-feeding, the medicine is used only if your doctor considers that the benefit to the mother outweighs the risk. Read the package leaflet carefully before use.

Possible side effects

Rare: allergic reactions, a burning sensation in the anal area.

If side effects occur, stop using the product and consult a doctor or pharmacist.

STORAGE

Store below 25 °C. Do not freeze. Keep out of the reach of children. Shelf life: 24 months.
