Proctotrombin
Rectal suppositories, 120 IU/1.675 mg/30 mg
COMPOSITION
Each suppository contains the active substances heparin sodium 120 IU, prednisolone acetate 1.675 mg and lauromacrogol 400 30 mg.
Excipients: colloidal anhydrous silica, medium-chain saturated triglycerides, glycerol tristearate, semi-synthetic solid glycerides.
WHAT IT IS USED FOR
A combination medicine with antithrombotic, anti-inflammatory, sclerosing and analgesic action, for the short-term symptomatic treatment of haemorrhoids and perianal itching (perianal pruritus).
HOW IT WORKS
The components complement each other: heparin prevents clot formation in haemorrhoidal nodes, reduces swelling and inflammation, and promotes tissue regeneration; prednisolone (a corticosteroid) reduces inflammation, itching, burning and pain; lauromacrogol 400 has a local sclerosing and analgesic effect.
HOW TO USE
Administered rectally, 1 suppository a day, after a bowel movement and local hygiene. If symptoms are severe, 1 suppository 2–3 times a day may be used on the first day. The treatment course must not exceed 7 days.
If symptoms do not improve, consult your doctor for a proctological examination.
WHEN IT SHOULD NOT BE USED
hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients;
bacterial, viral or fungal infections in the perianal area;
a predisposition to bleeding;
the first trimester of pregnancy.
Important to know
As with all corticosteroids, do not use the medicine in high doses or for a long time: prolonged use may slow healing and lead to systemic effects of prednisolone. Using other rectally administered medicines at the same time is not recommended.
In the second and third trimesters of pregnancy and during breast-feeding, use only when strictly necessary, as directed by your doctor. Read the package leaflet carefully before use.
Possible side effects
Very rare: hypersensitivity reactions, local irritation.
With prolonged use: slowed healing and possible systemic effects typical of prednisolone.
If side effects occur, stop using the product and consult a doctor or pharmacist.
STORAGE
Store below 25 °C. Do not freeze. Keep out of the reach of children. Shelf life: 36 months.
