Clotrimazole
Overview
Clotrimazole
Cream, 10 mg/g
COMPOSITION
One gram of cream contains the active substance clotrimazole 10 mg.
Excipient with known effect: cetostearyl alcohol 115 mg/g. Other excipients: polysorbate 60, sorbitan monostearate, octyldodecanol, cetyl palmitate, benzyl alcohol, purified water.
WHAT IT IS USED FOR
A broad-spectrum antifungal for the treatment of skin and mucosal infections caused by fungi (dermatophytes, Candida, Malassezia furfur) and Corynebacterium minutissimum. It is used for:
interdigital mycoses (tinea pedis, tinea manuum), skin mycoses (tinea corporis), tinea versicolor;
mycoses of skin folds (tinea inguinalis, erythrasma), onychomycosis (paronychia);
superinfected seborrhoeic dermatitis, sycosis barbae, favus;
fungal and nonspecific vulvitis, candidal balanitis.
HOW IT WORKS
Clotrimazole inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, a key component of the fungal membrane, disrupting its structure and function, which leads to the death or arrested growth of the fungi.
HOW TO USE
Apply to the skin 2–3 times a day in a thin layer, rubbing in gently until absorbed. About ½ cm of cream is enough for an area the size of a palm. For foot infections, wash and dry the feet thoroughly (especially between the toes) before applying.
Duration of treatment depending on the condition:
dermatomycosis: 3–4 weeks;
erythrasma: 2–4 weeks;
tinea versicolor: 1–3 weeks;
fungal vulvitis and candidal balanitis: 1–2 weeks.
Do not use on the scalp or nails. If symptoms do not improve after 4 weeks, consult your doctor.
WHEN IT SHOULD NOT BE USED
Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to clotrimazole or to any of its excipients.
Important to know
Avoid contact with the eyes. Do not swallow. The cream's excipients (especially the stearates) may damage latex products (condoms, diaphragms) and may reduce the effectiveness of vaginal spermicides; use other contraceptive methods during treatment and for 5 days afterwards.

The medicine contains cetostearyl alcohol, which may cause local skin reactions (for example contact dermatitis). Read the package leaflet carefully before use.
