Cream, 0.5 mg/10 mg/1000 IU per gram

One gram of cream contains the active substances betamethasone 0.5 mg (as betamethasone dipropionate), clotrimazole 10 mg and gentamicin 1000 IU (as gentamicin sulfate).

Excipients with known effect: propylene glycol, cetostearyl alcohol. Other excipients: white soft paraffin, liquid paraffin, cetomacrogol 1000, benzyl alcohol, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, phosphoric acid, sodium hydroxide, purified water.

A combination cream pairing an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid (betamethasone), an antifungal (clotrimazole) and an antibiotic (gentamicin). It is used to relieve the inflammatory signs of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses when these are complicated by infection (bacterial or fungal), or when such infection is suspected — for example in skin mycoses (tinea pedis, cruris, corporis), candidiasis and tinea versicolor with bacterial superinfection.

The three substances act in a complementary way: betamethasone reduces inflammation, redness and itching; clotrimazole kills fungi; and gentamicin acts against susceptible bacteria. In this way inflammation and skin infection are treated at the same time.

For external use. Apply a thin layer to the whole affected area and adjacent skin twice a day (morning and evening), regularly. The duration of treatment depends on the location and extent of the lesions.

If there is no improvement after 3–4 weeks, consult your doctor so the diagnosis can be reviewed. Experience in children is limited, so in children it is used only on the advice and under the supervision of a doctor.

Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to betamethasone, clotrimazole, gentamicin or to any of its excipients. Cross-allergy with other aminoglycoside antibiotics is possible.

Important to know

The cream is for the skin only; do not apply it in the eyes. Do not use it on open wounds and do not cover the treated area with dressings or tight bandages, as these increase absorption into the body. Avoid applying it to large areas or for long periods: the corticosteroid can be absorbed and cause systemic effects, especially in infants and children (including slowing of growth). Stop treatment if irritation, sensitisation or a new infection occurs.

If vision disturbances occur (for example blurred vision), consult a doctor. The medicine contains cetostearyl alcohol (which may cause local skin reactions, for example contact dermatitis) and propylene glycol (which may cause irritation). During pregnancy, use only if strictly necessary, not in large amounts and not for long periods; for breast-feeding, the decision is made together with your doctor. Read the package leaflet carefully before use.

Possible side effects

Local: burning, stinging, itching, redness, dry skin, flaking; less often skin colour changes, blisters, swelling.

With prolonged use or under occlusive dressing (due to the corticosteroid): thinning of the skin, stretch marks, folliculitis, acne-like eruptions, excess hair, perioral dermatitis, secondary infections; rarely systemic corticosteroid effects.

Frequency not known: blurred vision. If side effects occur, stop using the product and consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Store below 25 °C. Do not freeze. Keep out of the reach of children. Shelf life: 36 months.
