COMPOSITION
Each suppository contains the active substances benzocaine 100 mg, bismuth subgallate 40 mg, zinc oxide 20 mg and levomenthol 4 mg.
Excipients: macrogol 400, macrogol 1500.
WHAT IT IS USED FOR
A combination medicine with analgesic, antiseptic and astringent action, for the symptomatic treatment of haemorrhoids and anal fissures.
HOW IT WORKS
The components complement each other: benzocaine provides local anaesthetic action (relieves pain), bismuth subgallate and zinc oxide have astringent, adsorbent and antiseptic effects (protecting and drying the mucosa), and levomenthol has analgesic and antiseptic action, giving a cooling sensation.
HOW TO USE
Administered deep into the rectum, after an evacuating enema or a bowel movement. Adults and children over 12 years: 1 suppository once or twice a day. The treatment course is 8–10 days.
WHEN IT SHOULD NOT BE USED
hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients;
methaemoglobinaemia;
children under 12 years of age.
Important to know
Tell your doctor if you are taking sulfonamides: benzocaine is converted into para-aminobenzoic acid, which may reduce their effectiveness. Cholinesterase inhibitors may reduce the metabolism of benzocaine.
During pregnancy and breast-feeding, the medicine is used only after your doctor weighs the benefit against the risk. Read the package leaflet carefully before use.
Possible side effects
Very rare: hypersensitivity reactions (itching, erythema, skin rash, local swelling), contact dermatitis, a burning sensation in the rectum, a laxative effect.
Frequency not known: methaemoglobinaemia.
If side effects occur, stop using the product and consult a doctor or pharmacist.
STORAGE
Store below 25 °C. Do not freeze. Keep out of the reach of children. Shelf life: 36 months.
