Primafungin

Ovules, 100 mg

Each ovule contains the active substance natamycin 100 mg.

Excipient with known effect: cetyl alcohol. Other excipients: sorbitan trioleate, polysorbate 80, sodium bicarbonate, adipic acid, semi-synthetic solid glycerides.

An antifungal medicine for the treatment of vaginitis, vulvitis and vulvovaginitis caused mainly by the fungus Candida albicans.

Natamycin is an antifungal antibiotic that binds to the membrane of fungi, disrupting its structure and leading to their death. It is particularly effective against Candida fungi. Under the influence of body temperature, the ovule forms a foamy mass that ensures even distribution of the active substance throughout the genital area.

For vaginal use, 1 ovule a day, in the evening before bedtime, inserted deep into the vagina while lying down. The treatment course is 3–6 days.

In chronic or recurrent conditions, the local treatment may be supplemented with natamycin tablets or cream, as advised by your doctor.

Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to natamycin or to any of its excipients.

Important to know

Treatment should be interrupted during menstruation. Abstaining from sexual intercourse during treatment is not necessary; however, examination of the partner is recommended and, in the event of a genital fungal infection, appropriate treatment should be given to the partner.

The medicine contains cetyl alcohol, which may cause local skin reactions (for example contact dermatitis). Primafungin may be used during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Read the package leaflet carefully before use.

Possible side effects

Rare: hypersensitivity reactions to the components of the medicine, a mild burning sensation and local irritation.

If side effects occur, stop using the product and consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Store below 25 °C. Keep out of the reach of children. Shelf life: 24 months.
