Ovules, 500 000 IU

COMPOSITION

Each ovule contains the active substance nystatin 500 000 IU.

Excipients with known effect: butylated hydroxyanisole (E320), butylated hydroxytoluene (E321). Other excipients: citric acid, liquid paraffin, semi-synthetic solid glycerides.

WHAT IT IS USED FOR

An antifungal medicine for the treatment and prevention of vaginal candidiasis (a fungal infection caused by Candida).

HOW IT WORKS

Nystatin is an antifungal antibiotic that inserts itself into the membrane of fungi and disrupts its structure. The fungal cell loses its contents and dies. It is particularly active against Candida fungi.

HOW TO USE

For vaginal use, 1 ovule a day, preferably in the evening before bedtime, after hygiene of the area. The treatment course is 10–14 days.

The duration of treatment and any repeated courses are set by your doctor according to the severity of the infection. Not for use in children.

WHEN IT SHOULD NOT BE USED

hypersensitivity to nystatin or to any of the excipients;

the first trimester of pregnancy.

Important to know

Do not stop treatment during menstruation or if symptoms improve in the first few days. Avoid sexual intercourse during treatment, and simultaneous treatment of the partner is recommended to prevent re-infection.

The medicine contains butylated hydroxyanisole (E320) and butylated hydroxytoluene (E321), which may cause local skin reactions (for example contact dermatitis) or irritation of the eyes and mucous membranes. Do not use at the same time as clotrimazole (it reduces clotrimazole's activity). In the second and third trimesters of pregnancy and during breast-feeding, use only as advised by your doctor. Read the package leaflet carefully before use.

Possible side effects

Rare: allergic reactions (transient skin rash, itching), irritation of the vaginal lining.

If side effects occur, stop using the product and consult a doctor or pharmacist.

STORAGE

Store below 25 °C. Do not freeze. Keep out of the reach of children. Shelf life: 24 months.
