Rectal suppositories, 500 mg
COMPOSITION
Each suppository contains the active substance methyluracil (dioxomethyltetrahydropyrimidine) 500 mg.
Excipient: semi-synthetic solid glycerides.
WHAT IT IS USED FOR
A medicine that stimulates tissue regeneration and healing, with an anti-inflammatory effect. It is used to treat erosive-ulcerative colitis, proctosigmoiditis and anal fissures.
HOW IT WORKS
Methyluracil speeds up cell renewal and the healing of mucosal lesions, promoting tissue regeneration and epithelialisation. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect and stimulates local defences.
HOW TO USE
Administered rectally.
adults and children over 14 years: 1–2 suppositories 3–4 times a day;
children aged 8 to 14 years: 1 suppository a day.
The treatment course, depending on the condition, lasts from 7 days to 4 months and is set by the doctor. Not for use in children under 8 years.
WHEN IT SHOULD NOT BE USED
hypersensitivity to methyluracil or to any of the excipients;
acute or chronic leukaemia (especially the myeloid form);
lymphogranulomatosis;
malignant diseases of the bone marrow;
children under 8 years of age.
Important to know
In blood disorders the medicine is used only on the advice and under the supervision of a doctor; in severe forms it is not given. Methyluracil may enhance the action of certain antibiotics, sulfonamides and strophanthin.
During pregnancy and breast-feeding it should be used only if the doctor considers the benefit outweighs the risk. If dizziness occurs, avoid driving and operating machinery. Read the package leaflet carefully before use.
Possible side effects
Local: a burning sensation or itching in the anal area.
Frequency not known: allergic reactions (redness, itching, skin rash, urticaria), headache, dizziness.
If side effects occur, stop using the product and consult a doctor or pharmacist.
STORAGE
Store below 25 °C. Do not freeze. Keep out of the reach of children. Shelf life: 24 months.
