WHAT IT IS USED FOR

An anti-inflammatory medicine used to treat inflammation, pain and swelling in: rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and other inflammatory conditions. Also used for persistent night pain and swelling after surgical procedures.

HOW IT WORKS

Indomethacin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces inflammation, pain and swelling. It inhibits enzymes that produce prostaglandins — substances responsible for inflammation and pain.

HOW TO USE

Insert the suppository deep into the rectum.

Dose for adults:

Indomethacin 50 mg: 1 suppository 1-3 times per day

Indomethacin 100 mg: 1 suppository 1-2 times per day

Children and adolescents over 14 years:

Indomethacin 50 mg: 1 suppository once a day

Treatment should be short-term. Use the smallest effective dose.

WHEN IT SHOULD NOT BE USED

hypersensitivity to indomethacin or excipients;

active peptic ulcer or gastric ulcer;

history of recurrent gastrointestinal disorders;

history of proctitis or recent rectal bleeding;

pregnancy (especially in the third trimester) and breast-feeding;

children under 14 years (for 50 mg dose) and under 18 years (for 100 mg dose).

Important to know

Use with caution if you have liver, kidney or heart problems, high blood pressure, diabetes or heart failure. Avoid long-term use. A stomach-protective medicine may be needed. Consult your doctor before use if you take other medicines.

Possible side effects

Local: rectal irritation. Possible: stomach pain, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, dizziness, headache. Rare: stomach ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding. If side effects occur, stop use and consult your doctor.

STORAGE

Store below 25 °C in the original packaging. Keep out of the reach of children. Shelf life: 36 months.
