Overview

Dixipantol

Ovules, 100 mg/16 mg

COMPOSITION

Each ovule contains dexpanthenol 100 mg and chlorhexidine digluconate 16 mg.

Excipients: macrogol 1500, macrogol 400.

WHAT IT IS USED FOR

A combination medicine with antiseptic and regenerative action for the local treatment of acute and chronic vaginitis, bacterial vaginosis, endo- and exocervicitis, and cervical erosions (as part of combination therapy). It is also used for the prevention of infectious and inflammatory complications in obstetrics and gynaecology (before and after gynaecological procedures, childbirth, IUD insertion) and to accelerate mucosal regeneration after destructive treatment methods (diathermocoagulation, cryodestruction, laser coagulation).

HOW IT WORKS

The two components act together locally: dexpanthenol (provitamin B5) stimulates mucosal regeneration, normalises cell metabolism and has an anti-inflammatory action; chlorhexidine digluconate is a broad-spectrum antiseptic active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, fungi and protozoa (including Trichomonas vaginalis), without disrupting the normal lactobacillus flora. It retains its activity in the presence of blood and pus.

HOW TO USE

Administer vaginally, 1 ovule twice daily for 7–10 days. If necessary, treatment may be extended up to 20 days. Wash hands before and after use. Sexual intercourse should be avoided during treatment.

WHEN IT SHOULD NOT BE USED

Hypersensitivity to dexpanthenol, chlorhexidine digluconate or to any of the excipients.

Important to know

The medicine may be used during pregnancy and breast-feeding. It does not affect the ability to drive or operate machinery.

Do not use concurrently with other vaginal antiseptics, with vaginal medicines containing iodine, with detergents containing an anionic group (saponins, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium carboxymethylcellulose) or with soap (these may reduce the effectiveness of the medicine). If side effects occur, stop using the product and consult your doctor.

Read the package leaflet carefully before use.

Possible side effects

Local (frequency not known): allergic reactions, itching, burning sensation.

Very rare: hypersensitivity reactions, including severe allergic reactions and anaphylaxis, caused by chlorhexidine digluconate.

If side effects occur, stop using the product and consult a doctor or pharmacist.

STORAGE

Store below 25 °C in the original packaging. Keep out of the reach of children. Shelf life: 24 months.
