Diminuvir
Cream, 10 mg/g
COMPOSITION
One gram of cream contains the active substance penciclovir 10 mg.
Excipients with known effect: propylene glycol (may cause skin irritation) and cetostearyl alcohol (may cause local skin reactions, for example contact dermatitis). Other excipients: white soft paraffin, liquid paraffin, cetomacrogol 1000, purified water.
WHAT IT IS USED FOR
An antiviral medicine for the treatment of cold sores (herpes on the lips and around the mouth) caused by the Herpes simplex virus, in adults (including the elderly) and children aged 12 years and over.
HOW IT WORKS
Penciclovir penetrates cells infected with the herpes virus, where it is converted into an active form that inhibits replication of the viral DNA. This active form remains in the infected cells for more than 12 hours, providing prolonged antiviral activity with minimal impact on healthy cells.
HOW TO USE
Apply to the lips and the skin around the mouth. Start treatment as early as possible, at the first signs of the infection (tingling, itching, redness).
Apply the cream with a clean finger every 2 hours during the day (approximately 8 times a day) for 4 days. If the condition does not improve or worsens after 4 days, consult a doctor.
WHEN IT SHOULD NOT BE USED
Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to penciclovir, famciclovir or to any of its excipients.
Important to know
The cream is applied only to the lips and the skin around the mouth. Do not apply it to mucous membranes (in the eyes, mouth, nose or on the genitals). Avoid spreading the virus, especially when lesions are active (do not touch the lesions, wash your hands thoroughly, avoid close contact).
Patients with severe cold sores or reduced immunity (AIDS, bone marrow transplant, etc.) should consult a doctor. The medicine contains propylene glycol and cetostearyl alcohol. It may be used during pregnancy and breast-feeding only as advised by your doctor, as systemic absorption is minimal. Read the package leaflet carefully before use.
Possible side effects
Common: a burning sensation, pain or hypoaesthesia (numbness) at the site of application.
Frequency not known: allergic reactions (urticaria, allergic contact dermatitis with rash, itching, blisters, swelling), worsening of herpes lesions, skin depigmentation, headache, swelling of the mouth or throat.
If side effects occur, stop using the product and consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Store below 25 °C. Keep out of the reach of children. Shelf life: 36 months.
